my story
My name is Philippe Signer, and I am the chief designer at eco interior design. My goal in creating this business was to offer customers high-quality interior design and project management, with a particular focus on sustainability. I am passionate about the environment and have found that with clever design and the careful selection of materials, renovations can result in minimal environmental impact.
I began my career as a trained chef in Switzerland, which impressed upon me the importance of ergonomics in design – style should never come at the expense of functionality. After achieving an Advanced Diploma of Industrial Design in 2001, I then spent seven years as an art director and set designer for productions in theatre, film and television. My time spent working in the Arts taught me the importance of visual impact when designing a space – the need for “wow” factor to complement functionality. After a further 7 years spent specialising in kitchen design, I felt it was time to start my own business where I could champion ecologically sound design practices.

We don’t believe that “green” design necessitates excessive cost, so we aim to specify affordable and locally sourced materials with certifications from Global Green Tag and the Forestry Stewardship Council. By using local products wherever possible, eco interior design are able to support the Australian economy while simultaneously minimising the travel carbon footprint of the building materials. Our commitment to the environment has led to our specialising in products that are zero-emission (EO), recyclable, low impact and low in volatile organic compounds (VOC). So, our clients end up with a completed renovation that is visually stunning, kind to the planet and yet remains affordable.
